We fell in love with Papagayo before it was our business.
For nearly ten years, we came to Liberia, Costa Rica on service trips. Every time we left, we brought something home with us — a humbling reminder of how much we have, a renewed sense of what actually matters, and a perspective on the world that's hard to find any other way. The people and culture of this corner of Costa Rica changed us, trip after trip.
On one of those trips, we visited Peninsula Papagayo. We stayed in everything we could find. And we kept having the same conversation on the way home: we wished everyone could experience this.
That wish became The Smart Villas. Sixteen homes, found in person, on one of the most protected coastlines in Central America.

Every home we consider goes through the same conversation: would we book this for our family? For our closest friends? If the answer isn't a clear yes, the conversation ends there.
It's why our collection is small. And why we think that's a good thing.
Right now that collection lives mostly on Peninsula Papagayo, a place we've known for nearly a decade, with a few exceptional homes beyond it. We're growing slowly and deliberately into places that earn the same standard, wherever that takes us.
